Instructions

This isn’t a solo is a performance that shares control of a sound performance with the audience. 4 participants will receive a cello bow. When pressing its button, they are able to play a recorded sound of an unique music instrument called Knurl.

Follow below the instructions to participate:

Before the music starts

  1. Meet your instrument

Learn about the components of your music instrument:

This is my shape, a cello bow!

Blue light: That is my cue to play!

White light: I am sending sounds

2. Learn how to play

Your instrument will control sound recordings played in a loop. Once your blue light is on, you may control the cello sounds by pressing its button.

Control  the start position of your sound

If you point to the feet, you are at the beginning of the recording

If you point at the sky, you are at the end on the recording

Control the duration of the loop

Hold the bow on your right hand,

Make the loop small turning anticlock-wise

Make the loop longer turning clock-wise

To use your instrument effectively, use slow and continuous gestures to play the sound in the linear sequence or use your own gestures and ideas that the music inspires you!

At the concert time!

  1.  Getting started

Choose your bow and position yourself in front of the music stand

2.   When the music starts

Once it is your solo, you will hear your sounds coming from the speaker at your back.

3. Stay alert!

During the performance, you will hear different recorded sounds coming from your instrument—stay alert!

The most beautifull version of these performances happen when the group interacts with each other. By the clicks and the blinks of the light, you can find musical events to communicate with eachother and the performer during the performance.

Knurl and I hope you have a great time!

Please let us know about your experience after the show, and inform us if you do not wish to appear in any video or photo footage.
