Cidades habitáveis
(Liveable cities) a social impact music tour
Liveable Cities is Rafaele Andrade’s 3 month solo music tour, supported by the Dutch Consulate. The tour happened in 6 cities in Brazil, highlighting how a music exchange between local musicians and her musical instrument (Knurl) can have a positive impact and contribute to improving the life of Brazilian cities.
The project focuses on producing video documentaries, social impact activities, original compositions, field recordings, interviews with brazilian instrument makers and cultural exchanges developed during the tour and an ongoing field research through the country. Rafaele collected insights and learned about experimental instruments made in Brazil, making a collection of these technologies, sounds and their ways of thinking in a music work, called Liveable cities. In this work, Andrades address the challenges of creating inventions in underdeveloped countries, addressing their importance on developing autonomy and independence of global influences.
Brazil has been experiencing a significant migration to capitals and large urban centers, resulting in changes in the quality of life, with many people living in smaller spaces and apartments. The tour seeks to explore how culture can improve the quality of life of Brazilian citizens, promoting greater engagement with local communities, addressing their challenges and reflecting socio-environmental issues present in urban habitats.
