Knurl
Through testing cycles of music production, music composition and instrument design, Andrade employs 3D printing and open-source software to develop Knurl. Knurl is designed with 3D modelling and printing technology by her with recycled and biodegradable material made from waster resocurces from the Netherlands.
The creative program is designed by Rafaele using the language Supercollider. It is implemented on the microcontroler bela. The instrument has an OLED screen, sensors, leds, fader, and an stereo combo jack (XLR and jack) and mini jack outputs.
It takes 3 weeks to make one Knurl. Rafaele counts with the support of a team of sound engineers (Simon Kalker) and designer (Niccolo Merendino, Tim Duerinck) to research, iterate and improve the design on a regular basis.
